DJ Wigs is a turntablist and beat maker who specializes in Boom Bap Hip-Hop, Dusty Funk, Yardie Reggae, Southern Soul, And Bebop Jazz. As a 20+ year vet behind the wheels he’s been involved in the local music scenes of Nashville,
Honolulu, Knoxville and now in his current home in Chicago. From traditional mixtapes, club residencies, college radio shows, podcasts, blogs, backing up acts, releasing beat tapes, or adding scratch hooks Wigs truly does it all. But above all he is a fan who wants to contribute to the culture.
In his own words regarding this project:
Beat Tape Co-Op reached out and invited me to take part in their Foundation Producer Series and I’m honored to deliver the 20th installment. I really dug deep both into my crates and into myself to bring something new and interesting to the table. This is a project for Boom Bap heads, record nerds, raggamuffins, freedom fighters, graffiti writers, tree lighters, grassroots organizers, lovers of Chicago, and a tribute to my wife Alexandra and her amazing strength battling breast cancer. I believe this is my best work I’ve ever created and I hope it brings you happiness. Peace and love to everyone.

The vibes here are everywhere from fuego to soul clapping to rainy day jazz to lucid dreaming to bourbon beach party. I think if I actually had all the samples I wanted my own project would sound pretty similar. This belongs in a museum. Those Joe Exotic samples though...🚶♂️🐅 😂 My new favorite drop from Common and Normal.
